Fatal Mechanicsville Accident
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — On July 30, 2021, at approximately 11:08 a.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported motor vehicle collision with a vehicle on fire in the 30000 block of Three Notch Road, at the intersection of Golden Beach Road, in Charlotte Hall. Deputies arrived on scene and located one vehicle engulfed in flames, with at least one occupant inside the vehicle. Members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and continued the investigation.
Preliminary investigation determined a 2008 Subaru Outback operated by Aleksandar Andreev Ivanchev, age 38 of Lexington Park, was traveling north bound on Three Notch Road at a high rate of speed. Ivanchev continued through a solid red light and struck a 2005 Ford Escape, which was traveling from Golden Beach Road through the intersection of Three Notch Road, with a solid green light.
Upon impact, the Ford Escape became engulfed in flames. The Ford Escape was occupied by two individuals, who were pronounced deceased on scene.

The Officer Involved Shooting Of Peyton Ham
LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Following an officer involved shooting in Leonardtown, the Maryland State Police(MSP) have confirmed that the victim of the shooting, a teenager, has passed away from his injuries at this time.
The victim was reportedly holding an “Airsoft gun” and a knife when he was approached by nearby police, where he was eventually shot multiple times.
The victim would later be identified as the 16-year-old Peyton Ham.

An 8-Foot Shark Gets Reeled In
POINT LOOKOUT, Md. — Multiple reports confirm that someone caught an “8-foot bull shark” in the area of Point Lookout State Park on July 20.
He described how someone he knew brought in the shark which had previously been swimming with skates in the water. He believed that the shark had been caught in a net in the water down there, and he was unsure if the shark was alive when they brought it in.
The person we spoke to informed us that the shark was gutted soon after, and taken back to the freezer of the man who caught it for storage.

Another Alligator, This Time In St. Mary’s County
HOLLYWOOD, Md. — Some people may have thought it was “fake news,” but it was in fact confirmed by multiple government officials in the county who worked to trap it. Reports initially emerged about the animal around September.
However, it was later determined that if there is no community threat from the animal, the county will not pursue the capture efforts beyond those of a local contractor who tried to make the catch.

Hit-And-Run After Loveville Buggy Crash
LOVEVILLE, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office announced Ryan Nicholas Cherrico, age 31 of Mechanicsville, has been located and arrested after being involved in a hit-and-run crash with a horse-drawn buggy. The operator of the buggy was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Cherrico was charged with the following:
- Negligent Homicide by Vehicle Under the Influence
- Negligent Manslaughter by Vehicle
- Motor Vehicle Unlawful Taking
- Driving Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol
- Driving Motor Vehicle on Highway on Suspended License and Privilege
- Failure to Immediately Return and Remain at Scene of Accident Involving Death
- Failure of Driver Involved in Accident to Render Reasonable Assistance to Injured Person

“Accident” At The Waldorf Taco Bell
WALDORF, Md. — On March 31, 2021, officers responded to the Taco Bell located at 91 Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of a disorderly subject at the drive-thru window. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the front entrance doors to the Taco Bell were shattered. Officers also contacted multiple victims who were struck by a vehicle.

Former Maryland Tax Preparer Sentenced To More Than Two Years In Federal Prison For Tax Fraud Conspiracy
GREENBELT, Md. — On June 4, U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm sentenced Anita Fortune, age 56, of Alexandria, Virginia, to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for a conspiracy to defraud the United States and for assisting in the preparation and filing of false tax returns. Judge Grimm also ordered Fortune to pay restitution in the full amount of the loss, $189,748.

UPDATE: Tyler Andrew Rose Found Deceased; Family Gives Statement
