YOUR SAILING AREA
CAPE VERDE
Situated in the Atlantic Ocean, about 600 kilometres before the coast of Senegal, Cape Verde is home to 10 islands all boasting diverse landscapes, steep terrace fields growing bananas and coffee plantations, sandy deserts, black volcanoes and a fiercely deep blue ocean. The sailing waters are a haven for spotting wildlife and are full of fly-fish, tuna, sea turtles and humpback whales, making a sailing holiday in Cape Verde the perfect way to see this island chain.
In recent years, the islands have gained an unfortunate reputation for mass tourism, large hotel resorts, and a fly-and-flop mentality. Sailing with Morgenster will take you away from this tourist hustle and bustle. Discover the rich culture the locals are proud of as the crew connects with local guides for excursions to explore the islands’ warm tropical climate, floral landscapes, delicious cuisine, and great sailing grounds.
Read more about sailing in Cape Verde here.
Morgenster will organise excursions on each island but participating is not mandatory and you can also explore the islands at your own free will. During the sailing passages, you are invited to help with all the activities on board; hoisting the sails, steering and navigating. Guests are divided into relaxed watches so that everyone gets the opportunity to learn the ropes in a safe and supported environment and, in turn, get to relax on board at their own will. Those who dare can climb the mast to see the world from a big sailing vessel! After each sailing passage between islands, we will take the time to explore the island of our destination. At night, we will primarily be anchored, but in some cases, we will keep sailing through the night.

Island Hopping
SAL, SANTIAGO AND SÃO VICENTE
Your Cape Verde adventure will begin on the island of Sal. As the sun begins to set, you’ll step on board and be warmly greeted by the friendly crew. After a peaceful night’s sleep, we’ll chart a course towards the captivating island of Santiago.
On the morning of day three, we’ll drop anchor in the charming town of Tarrafal and spend the day exploring the island. Our next passage will see us set sail for São Vicente, with the possibility of catching a glimpse of the awe-inspiring active volcano, Fogo, if the weather permits. Spending the night at sea, the following morning will be met with the breathtaking sight of land, first São Vicente and, shortly after, Santo Antão.
Our journey will culminate with an anchorage in the bay of Mindelo, the second-largest city and port in Cape Verde, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore a variety of restaurants, an enchanting indoor market, cosy cafés, and souvenir shops. The afternoon will be yours to wander and soak in the town’s vibrant atmosphere.
SANTO ANTÃO
Santo Antão is considered the most beautiful island of the archipelago. It is also the greenest and most fertile of the islands. We hike through the diverse landscape on the volcano’s edge, and the breathtaking views make this an unforgettable excursion.
SÃO NICOLAO
Our next destination on the island of São Nicolau is also called Tarrafal, and we’ll drop anchor just in front of the harbour. Tarrafal is a peaceful fisherman’s village where we will be welcomed with open arms. There is barely any tourism here; at least half of all fishermen sail instead of using motorized boats. On São Nicolau, we visit the beautiful worn basalt formations and drive up to the last remains of a primaeval forest in the national park ‘Monto Gordo’ for a hike. There are Grogue distilleries here, and if a distillery opens, we will stop to see how this process works.
BOA VISTA
Boa Vista is famous for its beautiful beaches and remarkable moving sand dunes. Our guide is waiting for us among the local fishermen on the pier of Sal Rei. He tells us about the island, its history, and the turtle protection program he’s working for. They are trying to protect the second largest population of loggerhead turtles. He will show us around the island in 4×4 trucks.

There is also another undercover area at the deck level with bench seating, perfect for relaxing under the watch.
Below decks, Morgenster has four 2-berth twin cabins and four 4-berth cabins. All bedding and towels are included, and each cabin has a ventilation/heating system and a wash basin. All cabins share communal toilets and showers.
